                                  Weeding is done through a rotary wheeled device caller Japanese Rice Weeder.Since the weeder was first invented  in Japan,thats's why it is also called Japanese Rice weeder.It is mainly used in irrigated or lowland row transplanted crops(rice).The rotary wheel contains tines which ,through rotation,cuts and uproots the weeds and incorporates them into the the mud.Standing water is the prerequisite for its operation.Rice weeder is widely used in transplanted rice fields in South Asian countries including Bangladesh.


Rice weeder is most effective for wetland  row crops.It is economic and time saving  method.Weeder brings additional benefit of incorporating fertilizers and nutrients to the soil.Turbulence created in the standing water replenishes the root zone of the crop plants with oxygen.

Rice weeder is not suitable for uplands as well as dry field crops.It is not suitable for broadcast crops.
